A long time friend sms-ed me and said:
Hey Divas, why don’t you marry? Will you remain single all your life?
I asked him back: why marry, man? Did you forget our college days rhetoric? That our own one hand is enough for us?
He replied: If you won’t marry, then you won’t have kids. And if you won’t have kids, you’ll suffer in old age.
I was really amused by his innocent logic.
Don’t people who have kids suffer in their old age? Moreover, who cares for the old age? I’ll enjoy the present, and the future will take care of itself.
Once a well-wisher colleague also gave his golden advice: Either you get married and enjoy whatever good or bad side it has, or you commit yourself to single-hood and attach yourself to something that’s meaningful for future generations.
The thing is that I’m already doing things that’s very meaningful to both present and future generations.
And once my one cousin who was fed up with answering for me came up with his own brilliant idea: Divasda, pretend that you’re a Bramhachari, and a devotee of Hanuman.
I call myself a spiritual person, but I’m not religious in the conventional sense, coz I don’t follow any rituals. Actually, I am a Bramhachari, if you really understand it’s meaning. But I don’t consider it necessary to explain or prove it to anyone.
Yes, sometimes it’s annoying when you’re a single. Coz it’s against the conventional norm. Sometimes people even try to blackmail you owing to your single status. And mostly, it’s the menfolks who put you in difficulty. But, I take such difficulties as opportunities to further clarify my point. However, I never had any problem with the females. It’s always the males. I agree with the hardcore feminists in their one observation: Most men are really pigs. Of course, there’s one exception: Divas is not a pig. 😆
Even in Nepal, it’s not uncommon to remain a single. Here’re some well known examples: From politics, Krishna Prasad Bhattarai, Shailaja Acharya, Pampha Bhusal. From Kollywood, Rajesh Hamal, Mithila Sharma, Komal Oli, Dipa Niraula. From academics: Late Professor Chaudhari, Tulasi Prasad Joshi, and my own teacher Dr Amit. From administration, secretary Usha Nepal. Among literateurs, Parijat, Tulasi Diwas, Sarubhakta, Manjushree Thapa, Human Rights Activist: Krishna Pahari, From medicine: Dr Govinda KC. Similarly, the Samata educationist Uttam Sanjel and the latest celebrity of the CNN Hero fame, Ms Pushpa Basnet, who says that marriage makes you selfish. And from philosophy, Divas the Great. 😆
But I am never attracted to other people’s lifestyle.. I never feel envy at how people live their life..In fact, I pity them most of the times, for I can see that they’re trapped in their lifestyle..
I believe in enjoying life. And i believe in enjoying moments. I can enjoy simple things in life. And I always find new ways to enjoy life. I certainly had my difficult times. But that was only until my bachelors, coz until that time I was caught in a rotten social and educational trap.
See how I enjoy my life these days. These days I’m on bed for at least 12 hours…ahhh, what a luxurious life. And since it’s winter, it feels so good to be in the sun. While going to work, I meet school kids. And the kids look at my mountain bike longingly. And i yell at them, and they yell back to me. And I do not forget to enjoy the cartoon strips after finishing my work.
