  1. Why should indian government subsidise mecca piligrammage for muslims while they are not subsidizing hindu piligrammage? Why there is no any Hindu member of parliament in pakistan and india made many muslim presidents?

  2. Dr. Abdul, I request you not to spread hatred among muslims against India. It was Iqbal who wrote “Saare jahan se achcha hindostan hamaara”.

I strongly disagree with your views expressed here. India is secular in nature that’s why Indian government provides subsidy to Haj pilgrim for muslims, just like it provide for Kailash Maansarover Yatra for hindus.

India is secular where muslims like Dr. Zakir Hussain, F A Ahmed and Abdul Kalam became President of the country.

India is secular where Amir Khan, Shahrukh Khan, Salman Khan and Saif Ali Khan are heartthrob of millions.

India is secular where Nawab Mansur Ali khan Pataudi and Mohammed Azharuddin were appointed captains of the national cricket team, Mohammad Shahid was appointed as captain of national hockey team and Sayeed Nayeemuddin is the only recipient of prestigious Dronacharya award in football.

India is secular where M. Hidayatullah and A M Ahmedi became the chief justice of India.

India is secular where Mohammed Rafi and Ghulam Ali are used to be listen in every household.

India is secular where hindus use to visit Hazrat Khwaja Muinuddin Chisti Dargah at Ajmer Sharif and hindus organize Iftaar party.

And our Qazi Taukir (Kashmiri off course) became the winner of a national talent hunt event.

India is democratic in it’s basic nature and that’s why we are the largest and one of the longest surviving democracy in the world.

It’s true that there are some black chapters like Babri demolition, Gujrat massacre etc. but exceptions are everywhere.

Kashmir was merged with India after the Maharaja – the ruler of Kashmir and Sheikh Abdullah – the people’s leader both agreed after our own muslim brothers of then newly formed Pakistan tried to capture the entire Pakistan.

The problem of militancy in kashmir arose in the late 80’s when more than a million Hindu’s were forced to leave the valley. They are still living in different parts of country, away from their home. They are equally wounded as we the muslims of Kashmir. If you are truly a secular then why don’t you mention a single line for their return to the valley. You don’t have any right to talk on behalf of us and absolutely no authority to comment on secularism.

History says that not long ago, Kashmir was a hindu state, and current demographic statics are a result of conversion – either forced or voluntary. It was we, the Kashmiris who chose that way in past. It is we, the Kashmiris who have to decide the fate of Kashmir, and not outsiders like you.

Kashmir is a real tribute to secularism, not to forget that Buta malik, who discovered the Amarnath cave, was a muslim.

  3. The doctor who knows all, a living encyclopedia, says that Kashmir was an independent country till 1947.LOL.
Go through the government gazettes and you will come to know that Kashmir was a muslim state with Hindu ruler under British India.
When Britishers decided to leave India, they formed two countries India and Pakistan. Also they provided the princely states(including Kashmir), which were under British rule, the option of either go with newly formed nations India and Pakistan or remain independent.
More than 700 princely states decided to go with India, a few with Pakistan and 3 states, Junagarh, Hyderabad and Kashmir decided to remain independent. Junagarh and Hyderabad public decided to go with India. It was Kashmir, which left alone. Neither the King of Kashmir, Maharaja Hari Singh nor Shiekh Abdullah – the public leader of Kashmir was willing to go with either India or Pakistan.
It was in the beginning of October 1947, when Pakistan army supported tribal invasion started to capture Kashmir and made it a part of Pakistan. The offendors were able to capture a large part of Kashmir and were a few kilometers away of capital Srinagar.
To save Kashmir from the Pakistan’s aggression, Maharaja Hari Singh agreed to sign the Instrument of Accession and accepted the sovereignty of India on October 27 1947, with a special status to kashmir. The Instrument of Accession had the support of the towering public leader Sheikh Abdullah. Indian Army came here to protect Kashmir from Pakistan.
We still enjoys the special status given to Kashmir.
As far as Kashmiri Pandits are concerned, they were forced to leave the valley, and we were not able to provide them support and shelter as we could not afford to annoy the extremist. So they are living in exile, in different parts in India.
It is a great shame that no one, including our Hurriyat leaders, ever talk about proving protection to the Pundits and assure them of their protection. They left the valley to save their lives and protect their dignity. Was it Indian forces which forced them to leave the valley? Ask the question to yourself Dr. Abdul. And you ask them to prove their loyalty towards Kashmir.
My childhood hindu friends are residing at Delhi, and always talk of their childhood spent in their motherland Kashmir. But I never find a reason to ask them to come back to their motherland as no one assure them of their safety and dignity.
It’s easy to blame the kashmiri pundits for not condemning Babri mosque (not in Kashmir) demolition, but we, the Kashmiri muslims should never be blamed for their eviction from their motherland.

  4. Parvez i salute u for ur immensely rich words,i wish all indians could think ur way in a secular manner ,ur a true indian

May allah change the way my countrymen think…
God bless India… plz help us

  9. Well Dr Abdul, since you are so confidently raising the query :

Is India capable of becoming a secular democracy?

OK, let us for a moment of humour, admit, that India cannot become a secular democracy. Now, that that point is settled, will you please go away and leave us Indians to ourselves – atleast those of us (without going into other merits) who have been represented in the mail at Serial No.4

Let me , on behalf of like – minded Indians, suggest, that if you represent the majority of the Muslims in India , and if you are so fed up, why don’t you move out – to another (neighbouring) communal country that you can all your very own ?

  10. Yes I agree with what Iqbal said, “‘Saaray Jehan say uchchaa, Hindustan humara”…………… ‘Humara’ means ‘Ours’.

  11. hahahahahahahahahahahahaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhahahahhhh

This guy never fails to brighten up my day.

  15. i will keep repeating ad-nauseum till u all read this fully !!!!

This article by Vir Sanghvi truly drives home some home truths !! Read it till the end and it’ll open your eyes to some hard hitting facts.

Indians and Pakistanis are no longer the same people in any significant sense (NEW)
Posted By: Vir Sanghvi | Posted On: 07 Mar 2009 12:38 PM

Few things annoy me as much as the claim often advanced by well meaning but woolly headed (and usually Punjabi) liberals to the effect that when it comes to India and Pakistan, “We’re all the same people, yaar.”

This may have been true once upon a time. Before 1947, Pakistan was part of undivided India and you could claim that Punjabis from West Punjab (what is now Pakistan) were as Indian as say, Tamils from Madras.

But time has a way of moving on. And while the gap between our Punjabis (from east Punjab which is now the only Punjab left in India) and our Tamils may actually have narrowed thanks to improved communications, shared popular culture and greater physical mobility, the gap between Indians and Pakistanis has now widened to the extent that we are no longer the same people in any significant sense.

This was brought home to me most clearly by two major events over the last few weeks.

The first of these was the attack on the Sri Lankan cricket team on the streets of Lahore. In their defence, Pakistanis said that they were powerless to act against the terrorists because religious fanaticism was growing. Each day more misguided youth joined jehadi outfits and the law and order situation worsened.

Further, they added, things had got so bad that in the tribal areas the government of Pakistan had agreed to suspend the rule of law under pressure from the Taliban and had conceded that sharia law would reign instead. Interestingly, while most civilized liberals should have been appalled by this surrender to the forces of extremism, many Pakistanis defended this concession.

Imran Khan (Keble College, Oxford, 1973-76) even declared that sharia law would be better because justice would be dispensed more swiftly!

(I know this is politically incorrect but the Loin of the Punjab’s defence of sharia law reminded me of the famous Private Eye cover when his marriage to Jemima Goldsmith was announced. The Eye carried a picture of Khan speaking to Jemima’s father. “Can I have your daughter’s hand?” Imran was supposedly asking James Goldsmith. “Why? Has she been caught shoplifting?” Goldsmith replied. So much for sharia law).

The second contrasting event was one that took place in Los Angeles but which was perhaps celebrated more in India than in any other country in the world. Three Indians won Oscars: A.R. Rahman, Resul Pookutty and Gulzar.

Their victory set off a frenzy of rejoicing. We were proud of our countrymen. We were pleased that India’s entertainment industry and its veterans had been recognized at an international platform. And all three men became even bigger heroes than they already were.

But here’s the thing: Not one of them is a Hindu.

Can you imagine such a thing happening in Pakistan? Can you even conceive of a situation where the whole country would celebrate the victory of three members of two religious minorities? For that matter, can you even imagine a situation where people from religious minorities would have got to the top of their fields and were therefore in the running for international awards?

On the one hand, you have Pakistan imposing sharia law, doing deals with the Taliban, teaching hatred in madrasas, declaring jehad on the world and trying to kill innocent Sri Lankan cricketers. On the other, you have the triumph of Indian secularism.

    The same people?

    Surely not.

We are defined by our nationality. They choose to define themselves by their religion.

But it gets even more complicated. As you probably know, Rahman was born Dilip Kumar. He converted to Islam when he was 21. His religious preferences made no difference to his prospects. Even now, his music cuts across all religious boundaries. He’s as much at home with Sufi music as he is with bhajans. Nor does he have any problem with saying Vande Mataram.

Now, think of a similar situation in Pakistan. Can you conceive of a Pakistani composer who converted to Hinduism at the age of 21 and still went on to become a national hero? Under sharia law, they’d probably have to execute him.

Resul Pookutty’s is an even more interesting case. Until you realize that Malayalis tend to put an ‘e’ where the rest of us would put an ‘a,’ (Ravi becomes Revi and sometimes the Gulf becomes the Gelf), you cannot work out that his name derives from Rasool, a fairly obviously Islamic name.

But here’s the point: even when you point out to people that Pookutty is in fact a Muslim, they don’t really care. It makes no difference to them. He’s an authentic Indian hero, his religion is irrelevant.

Can you imagine Pakistan being indifferent to a man’s religion? Can you believe that Pakistanis would not know that one of their Oscar winners came from a religious minority? And would any Pakistani have dared bridge the religious divide in the manner Resul did by referring to the primeval power of Om in his acceptance speech?

    The same people?

    Surely not.

Most interesting of all is the case of Gulzar who many Indians believe is a Muslim. He is not. He is a Sikh. And his real name is Sampooran Singh Kalra.

So why does he have a Muslim name?

It’s a good story and he told it on my TV show some years ago. He was born in West Pakistan and came over the border during the bloody days of Partition. He had seen so much hatred and religious violence on both sides, he said, that he was determined never to lose himself to that kind of blind religious prejudice and fanaticism.

Rather than blame Muslims for the violence inflicted on his community – after all, Hindus and Sikhs behaved with equal ferocity – he adopted a Muslim pen name to remind himself that his identity was beyond religion. He still writes in Urdu and considers it irrelevant whether a person is a Sikh, a Muslim or a Hindu.

Let’s forget about political correctness and come clean: can you see such a thing happening in Pakistan? Can you actually conceive of a famous Pakistani Muslim who adopts a Hindu or Sikh name out of choice to demonstrate the irrelevance of religion?

    My point, exactly.

What all those misguided liberals who keep blathering on about us being the same people forget is that in the 60-odd years since independence, our two nations have traversed very different paths.

Pakistan was founded on the basis of Islam. It still defines itself in terms of Islam. And over the next decade as it destroys itself, it will be because of Islamic extremism.

India was founded on the basis that religion had no role in determining citizenship or nationhood. An Indian can belong to any religion in the world and face no discrimination in his rights as a citizen.

It is nobody’s case that India is a perfect society or that Muslims face no discrimination. But only a fool would deny that in the last six decades, we have traveled a long way towards religious equality. In the early days of independent India, a Yusuf Khan had to call himself Dilip Kumar for fear of attracting religious prejudice.

In today’s India, a Dilip Kumar can change his name to A.R. Rahman and nobody really gives a damn either way.

So think back to the events of the last few weeks. To the murderous attack on innocent Sri Lankan cricketers by jehadi fanatics in a society that is being buried by Islamic extremism. And to the triumphs of Indian secularism.

    Same people?

    Don’t make me laugh.

  16. dr abdul
indians will never accept truth and reality, becoz they are used to live in the environs created by their self designated gods.i wont debate much but will acknowledge some facts.
1)If kashmir was a part of indian since 1947, why not indian government restores the political status of kashmir as it was in 1950s
2)the problem of kashmir as it has emerged today is an outcome of failure of indian government to reach out to majority population ( kashmiri muslims and other minorities including sikhs and buddists)in past 50yrs when at the same time they provided all opportunities to minority high caste hindu pandits.which even went to extent of rigging the state elections in 1987 in order to install government which was satisfying to kashmiri hindus taste.
    2) i strictly even today believe that kashmiri high caste hindus are responsible for distancing kashmir from india.
3)mr parvez has pondered very well but he has missed major thread. kashmiri hindus were just over 2 lakhs when they migrated for their and their generations good.they have recieved a huge amount of aid inthe form of relief, they have reservation in all professional colleges allover india, and have an excellent launching pad (indian government) for going abroad, where as at the same time youth of kashmiri muslim was battering between indian oppression, their carrier and ofcourse armed uprising. i fail to understand indians like pervaiz have sympathy with pundits ofcourse they were displaced and also around 120 were killed but at the same time have no sympathy for over 100,000 people( kashmiri muslims) killed by indian forces and another 30,000 forcefully disappeared in indian custody. pervaiz talks about dignity of kashmiri pandits at the same time he forgets dignity of 4000 kashmiri women raped by indian army and its affiliates.
4)it needs mind to think and will to accept truth
why kashmiri pundits are branding themselves as nationalists and kashmiri muslims as anti nationalists?
kashmiri pandits have motherland (india) and home land ( kashmir)but kashmiri muslims have only one land and that is kashmir and only kashmir where we want to live with honor and dignity and not as pony ridders, potters, poor boatmans, mountain dewellers as we were being projected and expected to be by the so called nationalists and first citizens of india.

  17. why this kind of map is used here…india is facin partition yrs ago. , no more pain to her.those who creats this map they shd be executed,as they r traitors…

but is dr some one told me that why de doing this.

    jai hind…

  18. dnt u gues hve any other agenda…other than hindu — muslim things.yet kashmir is indias,,,dlt this map. stop anti india propaganda.sometimes i think that rss mans are quite right bout u guys, blame on hindus does not solve the matter. nabi hazrat mohamad done a gr8 mistek on not to describe clearly what is zihad.look wht u done to to india, world ,by terorism, kiling inocents, bombed dem is not freedom fighting.but its not ur fault, ur from a very young religion,as per history so called hinduism is much older than any other religion.so der may be a some childis act.

some r takin bout lakhs of muslims are killed in kashmir,or disappeared,.who to blame for this.indian army or militants,.be clr on the facts and numbers.do u know historical movement of islam in india..if dnt read this.understand the facts.to day a hindu can say i am taking revenge of his religions past misaries…hope u read bout taimur lung, alaudin khalji, ouragajeb, akbar,.what they have done to the hindus. muslims also say like u and talk bout taking ravenge by a masacare.
so its not good for any one..and pls dnt terorise world.

  19. Aritra Jee!
Yes Islam is relatively a young religion but didn’t you hear that the new syllabus would always supersede the old one. Why we buy the new edition of books for our kids when the old editions are cheaply available in the market?
I can show you more than 5 versions of Bible, each different from others. Can quote you dozens of Geeta’s, Ramayain and other holy books versions but no one has ever found even the second amended version of Holy Quran. How about thinking on these eye opener facts with a cool mind instead of mud-slinging.
    Good day wishes

  20. Hi Dr.sahab ,,,I think Indians are just dreaming ,,dreaming ,,and dreaming,,,they think that Kashmir is their property,,but the Kashmiris will never accept this kind of funny statements given by the Indians ,,If Kashmir is their`s state then why They are failed to control the movements ,,why the Kashmiris are not supporting them ,,why Indians are pressured to eradicate The Kashmiris through their troops,, they always blamed Pakistan that Pakistani troops are going to fight against Pakistani people,,,but why they forgot this when their Army attacks innocent Kashmiris,,who they so called their people..
they always want to depress the movement for the rights of kashimiris ,,,they want to make Kashmir hostile always ,,it is their great mistake ,,,
one thing more I saw a comment that JUNAGARH,Kashmir and gurdaspur was Indian states ,,IT is their occupied states

  21. Answer to that hindu:
Their is no need to spread misinformation about india because indians killed more than 5 million muslims in 1947. Millions in our Kashmir and about 30,000 bangalies in bangal in 1971 in the shape of terrorist seprators, whic wereactually the officers of indian army , so we know real face of indian government .All that train service and friendship is a lie.Its not going to give us any way out but the war.If thats the way then no problem. I am the student of M.B.A does’nt matter how much i am educated? but iff any one will atack on us i will fight for my country because its not a new thing for us .We fight a war daily in our beloved Pakistan because of india every day in the shape of terrorism.

  22. U cant dream kashmir if u do that is the only thing u are capable of.India have more muslim population than pakistan so kashmir as a muslim dominated part belongs to every Indians.(Sorry my muslim brothers the next statement is not for u it is for inpure pak).If it is a muslim poputaled place for that u want Kashmir then can pakistan take the whole muslims living in India?U F..k.Kashmir is for every Indians(100 crore)includingHindu,Muslim,Sikh,Cristian,Parsi…………………..

  23. First u pakis find a Good leader in pakistan who is corruption free and love there nation than money. How many of ur presidents are free from corruption?.How many indian leaders (president,Pm)are corrupted may be 1 in 10>first u show some love to ur country and people then try to access other persons boundary and complaint there leaders u uneducated P..s

  24. Mr.Parvez, Thank you for speaking with a true Indian spirit.

As for hindu-musllim context, I would mind if Muslims leaves India. I mean I am a great fan of Indian classical music…. and all the rarest gems in this category are Muslims (before reading this article I’ve never thought about that!!!). My pride for being an Indian will be hurt if they leave India.
Last but not the least I’ll mind if I don’t get invitation for Biriyani on the day of Eid from my friend Farida (by the way, she makes the best Biriyani ever.:)).
I mean at the end of the day Hinduism or Islam are just religions… the way of the life. It’s like there is a café and four friends ordered same Columbian coffee with milk and sugar, without milk and sugar, with milk but no sugar and with sugar but no milk. Everyone thinks that his coffee test the best.

Come on guys.. There have been a lot of talks about hundu-muslim, hindu-shiks since the independence. I mean that what the rest of the world want us to do. And we are also making fun of ourselves acting like a puppet. And forget our real talents, forget about rich national resources, forget about our vast human resources. I mean think of that. Think of what we Indian can do if just for once for about hindu-muslim-shiks and do our jobs with our heart and soul for sake of our country. They have to write the future of the world twice.
Some day (not very far) We Indians will rule the world yet not hurt anybody’s freedom. We will be the richest of them all but Oh God do not make us greedy. We will be the most respected of them all but Oh God Do Not forgive us if we forget to return that respect to each and everyone. We will be the wise of them all but we will share it with others and make ourselves wiser. We will be the toughest and strongest so that even Satan will fear us and thus we will help the needy and the poor.

  25. I don’t know what you are talking about. I am not a muslim or hindu but I can tell you I have seen hindu, christian and buddhist people killed regularly in Bangladesh, Pakistan and also in Afghanistan (especially under taliband). There is more acceptance of muslim in India than hindu in any of the countries I mentioned before. In Pakistani occupied Kashmir, hindu people have been killed or chased away. They say they free the Kashmiris but in Pakistan although everyone is the same in Islam, the Punjabis control everything. Sindhis, Baluchis, Kashmiris, Pathans all have the lower jobs. All top jobs = Punjabi. Also where is there any school or university in Azad Kashmir? So how can that be Azad. I saw a university in Indian Kashmiri. How come all the money from the minerals and dams, electricity go to Punjab? Nothing for other Pakistanis? Islam says all muslim are equal. So how come Gulf Arabs are more equal that other Arabs and other Arab muslims more equal than Indian, Pakistani, Malaysian, Indonesian and African muslims?

  26. O DOCTOR SAAB, LET ME MEKE YOU HEAR FROM A KASHMIRI AS THAT IS WHAT I AM,
FIRST OFF ALL LET ME MAKE YOU CLEAR THAT KASHMIR ISSUE IS MORE A POLITICAL ONE THAN THAT OF HINDU/MUSLIM.(PRACTICALLY AND NON-POLITACALLY ITS JUST MATTER OF I DAY TO CLEAR ALL YOUR DOUBTS AND YOU WILL FIND INDIAN MAP ONE AGAIN AS IT WAS BEFORE 1947)

I REMEMBER THE TIMES IN KASHMIR,I CELEBRATING IED AS ENJOYING PAESTRIES AND “SAVYAAN”!!!GIFTED BY OUR NEIGHBOURES IN KASHMIR ,AND THEY CELEBRATING DIWALI WITH US IN 80’S

REVEALING SOME MORE FACTS FOR ALL THE PEOPLE IN PAKISTAN:

“PRASAD” MADE AT “MATA KHEER BHAVANI” (A SACRED TEMPLE) IS ALWAYS (TODAY ALSO) BEING PREPAIRED BY OUR MUSLIM BROTHERS

HELPERS WHO CARRY PILGRIMS TO MATA-VAISHNAOO DEVI TO THE HOLY SHRINE WHICH IS 13 KM UP HILL JOURNEY, ARE MOSTLY MUSLIMS.

IN 90’S WHEN HELL BROKE OVER IN KASHMIR, IT IS THE MUSLIM BROTHERS WHO HELPED US ONE WAY OR THE OTHER TO SAVE OUR LIVES.

WHEN EVER CHILDREN IN JAMMU HAVE TO APPAIR IN EXAMS OR FAMILY IS THROUGH ANY PROBLEM , ALL PEOPLE IN JAMMU IRRESPECTIVE OF RELIGION NEVER FORGET TO OFFER “CHAADER” TO “PEER BABA”

AND MANY MORE,WHERE I CAN WRITE AN BOOK WITH ENDLESS PAGES.

IT IS JUST BECAUSE OF THE PERSONAL INTEREST OF SOME PEOPLE WHO HAVE RUINED EVERY THING.

MOST OF THE PEOPLE INVOLVED IN SO CALLED JAHAD ARE LESS THAN 18 YEARS OF AGE (CHILDREN OBCESSED WITH GUNS ,PISTOLS,BOMBS) WHICH I THINK IN THAT AGE EVERY KID IS {THEY WANT TO BE SUPER HEROES AT ANY COST SUPER MAN,A ROBO-COP OR ANY OTHER SUPER HERO}WITH OUT UNDERSTANDIND THE CONSIQUENCES.ITS ALL LIKE A ACTION PACKED MOVIE FOR THEM WHERE THEY ARE HEROES AND IT BECOMS VERY EASY TO MOULD THEM FOR ANY THING .

PEOPLE IN KASHMIR ARE LESS BOTHERE ABOUT ANY THING, THEY JUST NEED A ROUTINE LIFE WHERE PEOPLE FEARLESSLY GO TO OFFICES, KIDS GO TO SCHOOL WITH OUT ANY STRIKES OR KASHMIR BANDH.

BUT THATS WHAT POLITICIANS FROM BOTH THE SIDES WILL NEVER LET TO HAPPEN, AS MILLIONS OF DOLLARS ARE ISSUED IN THE NAME OF KASHMIR AID,AND I WONDER IF ONLY 50% OF IT REACHES TO THE CONCERNED.

AS PER ME THIS HAS BEEN THE REAL STORY
THE MUSLIMS IN KASHMIR WERE TRAUMATISED ASE THEY WERE STUCK IN BETWEEN ,TERRIORISTS HARRASED THEM IF THEY DONT LET THEM HIDE AT THEIR PLACE. AND FORCES TOURCHER THEM BECAUSE THEY HAVE LET A TERRORIST TO HIDE OUT AT THEIR PLACE.
AS FAR AS HINDUS ARE CONCERNED THEY MADE TO LEAVE KASHMIR EITHER WERE KILLED.

SUFFRER HAS BEEN A COMMAN MAN ,EITHER HINDU OR MUSLIM.

THERE IS MANY MORE BUT I STOP HERE WITH FINAL WORDS

ITS A HIGH TIME THAT ACOMMAN MAN LIKE YOU AND MEARISES FROM A SLEEP AND ALL THE POLITICAL BASTERDS ARE TAUGHT A LESSON.
WE ALL SHOULD SRIVE FOR PROGRESS AND FIGHT DISEASE AND POOVERTY
