CRY, THE BELOVED COUNRY – A LETTER TO UN SECRETARY GENERAL
Your Under-Secretary was reported to have asked the political parties of Nepal including the Maoists to come up with unified agenda for holding the Constituent Assembly polls on the scheduled date of Nov 22, 2007.
The EU has issued a similar statement.
Other influential nations the US, China, and India have also insisted on having the polls as slated for.
But, it was dimaying that none have taken seriously the genocide taking place in Nepal.
Recent Carnage in Kapilvastu, which is the birthplace of Buddha and a UNESCO World Heritage site, may be just another sensational news item to the peace loving citizens of the world.
There is hardly a day which goes strikes, abduction, vandalism, genocide, mass-displacement…the list may go to any lenght.
The suspended King of Nepal, the political parties, the NGOs, and INGOs, all have lost their credibility in the eyes of Nepali people.
There is a strong probability of a Nepali version of Musarraf may come to power, only to make things worse than ever before.
Ironically, the UN and other world bodies have a history of being apathetic unless a country becomes Rwanda, Ethiopia, Sri-Lanka, Afghanistan, Iraq, Cambodia…etc, so that they could employ their troops and volunteers with most-sought-after careers and salary.
The United Nations’ Mission in Nepal(UNMIN) should realize its limitation that observing the government-Maoists peace-deal and the CA polls is not going to deliver much to the people.
Hence the UN should declare Nepal a failed State and deal with the situation accordingly.
Or, either India or China better annex Nepal as their another state, like they did with Sikkim and Tibet.
Life, Liberty, and pursuit for happiness are more important to any people than a false and painful national identity.
