Travelling On a Desert Ship in Jaisalmer
Arriving at Jaisalmer Railway Station before dawn, I felt like being in a fairy tale town… The Jaisalmer people call their town ‘Swarna Nagari’ or ‘The Golden Town’…and they’re not wrong to say so…everything here is ‘golden’ in color…just look at the station building above…
The town is full of forts…and you enter to old town through a stone door you’ve read in the fairy tales
And this is the massive Jaisalmer Fort…it’s so huge that i didn’t feel like going around it…
So, i headed for Sam Dunes, some 40 kms from Jaisalmer toward Pakistan…One of my aim of coming here was to do the Camel Safari on the desert..
This small boy is Chotu…he’s the camel driver…and the name of his camel is ‘Shaharukh Khan’…hahaha…no this camel is not a Bollywood star, still you can’t stop him from being a Desert Star
But Chotu was scared of me…so his older companion took me to the Desert…i was tempted by their offer that they’d take me deep into the Thar Desert…however, later I came to know that they’d planned to rob me..fools! they thought that it’s so easy to rob Divas…hah!
And here you see the real life hero Divas…on the back of Shahrukh Khan..
And this is the desert igloo…i wish i had a home like this one…
Camels are really strange creatures…they face toward the sun…even on a scorching noon time…when i asked the camel driver why doesn’t he keep the camels in the shade…he said, ‘If i keep them in the shade, they might catch cold. They need the sun all the time’.
