My Facebook friends reminded me that it was Teachers’ Day yesterday. I’d like to express my gratitude to all my teachers on this occasion, especially for their kindness. Since my early years, i’ve always been a teachers’ pet, even when i put them in so many difficulties. I remember one of my early teachers once even complained me, “I love you so much…but why do you always put me in difficulty?”
He was a science teacher. And i used ask him many naughty questions whenever he used start his lessons on reproductive system. See, i was a very naughty guy since my early days. And my teacher was a shy guy. He used to get embarrassed whenever anyone asked him naughty questions. i hope you understand what i mean by ‘naughty questions’
Once, he even bunked teaching when i asked him a really naughty question related to reproductive system. Unfortunately, my that teacher succumbed to early death due to some mosquito borne disease prevalent in Nepal’s Terai region.
And he was right. I’ve always put my teachers in trouble…even on political and social matters… Once, my one college teacher complained with other students, “Divas always puts me in difficulty…How loaded question does he ask…no matter how I will answer his question, i’ll be in trouble”.
In fact, i used to deliberately ask my teachers difficult questions. Becoz i knew that it’s so easy to ask difficult questions. And i always looked at my teachers as my close friends. So, i never felt any distance with them.
Once i even told my one favorite teacher that i see him as a friend. Although i know that we all are friends, i do not confess that with everyone. And i could see that he was happy when i said that. And i also know that he is reading these lines. He is one the best academicians of this country, and yet he is such an elusive person that if you’ve not met him or taken his class or read the text books written by him, you may not have even heard his name.
Once, he asked me,”So, how do you see your life?” And he repeated Robert Frosts famous lines that once i’d told him, “Two roads diverged in the woods, I took the one less traveled by, And that has made all the difference”. And he laughed.
Some of my teachers were even younger than me. For example, my French teacher Miss F. She used to call me, “I like you. You’re my pet.” I used to take double advantage from her. I used to learn from her, and at the same time, i also used to flirt with her. I also used to flirt with my biology teachers. I also had a crush on my one biology teacher who’d just finished her M Sc. But, unfortunately, she knew that i was flirting with her, and started calling me “Bhai” or “Brother”.
I also fondly remember our one English Teacher. She also used to admire me. Some of my friends were naughtier than me. While most of them used to bunk other classes, but in her class, they were the first benchers. I know, my those friends who are reading these lines are going to be embarrassed, coz i’m going to disclose their secrets. They used to sit on the first bench in her class, coz our English teacher was still single, and she’d really a great figure.
I also remember my many other teachers. In fact, i’ve so many fond memories with my teachers that i can go on and on like this. I remember them not only for their teachings, for i’d have learned life’s lessons anyway. I especially remember them for their kindness and their self-less spirit.
I also remember my students. See, i’ve been a teacher myself. And I’ve had really very fond memories with my students as well. I’ve really enjoyed their company. And i’m proud that once my one student whom i’d taught some 7-8 years back called me on the road and said,”Divas Sir, you’re one of the best teachers i’ve ever seen so far. I’d never forget you.”
I consider myself very lucky to receive such kindness from my teachers and students. I’d like to express my grattitude to all my teachers and students. I love you all. I’d like to quote a few lines from my memory that i’d read many years back:
When I was young, My teachers taught me
When I grew up, I taught my students
Now at 63, I don’t know how I became an old man..
