Nepal’s state-run airline has confirmed that it sacrificed two goats to appease a Hindu god, following technical problems with one of its aircraft.
There have been many ominous speculations regarding the corporate health of the Nepali national flag carrier, the RNAC(officially, NAC).
Though the government has removed the ‘Royal’ tag from all its offices, this blogger refuses to call it NAC, just for the name-sake.
I’ve worked in the corporation on one year contract some years ago. Hence, I had an opportunity to have a glimpse of just a fragment of the White Elephant.
The RNAC is a Nepal Government venture where the lowest grade staff draws a salary & allowances comparable to that of the highest ranking government officials - that’s my first definition.
Secondly, the Human Resources of the corporation can be broadly divided into four ‘royal’ groups: the hereditary Royal group obviously, the Congress Party Royals, the Marxist-Leninist Royals, and the recent revolutionary, the Maoists’ Royal groups.
Since I was there when the Maoists were still the ‘jungle’ people, I can not assess how they are doing their business as corporate leaders. Still, i think, it may be anyone’s guess.
The root problem for the beleaguered corporation lies in the ideological and egoistic tensions among these groups, in short, may be termed as the vested interest of the key political & market players.
Perhaps no other government organisation suffers the fierce competition within itself, among these highly polarized groups, to manipulate the resources & operations of the Corporation.
And the reasons are, again, too obvious to be explained.
Still, I was thrilled to find the RNAC in Ripley’s ‘Believe it or Not’!
For the same reason given in the picture above.
