A Sri-Lankan migrant working in London
This is the news posted on a BBC Blog:
Foreign workers blunder: Your reaction
More than half of new jobs created under Labour since 1997 have gone to foreign workers, it has emerged.
The government previously claimed the majority had gone to British workers but it later put out a clarification suggesting 52% – or 1.1 million – had gone to migrants.
The Home Secretary, Jacqui Smith, earlier apologised after the government underestimated the number of foreign workers in the UK by 300,000.
Employment Minister Caroline Flint admitted it was a “big mistake” but said foreign workers only represent about 8% of the UK workforce and contribute £6bn to the economy.
Have you lost confidence in the recording system? Do you think there should be a fixed limit on immigration numbers? Are you a foreign worker helping to contribute to the UK’s economy?
DIVAS adds:
Developed countries like Britain must remember their past, when they had exploited the resources and labor of most of the nations; either by direct plundering, or by by resorting to hegemonic tactics.
What’s wrong, if now, less advantaged people seek employment?
How can the rich remain in peace and when their earthly brethren are disallowed from their search of ‘life, liberty, and pursuit of happiness’ .
